GRE Reading Comprehension passages range from one paragraph to several, drawn from a wide variety of academic and general-interest subjects, and ask a mix of question types: main idea (what is the passage's overall point), explicit detail (what does the passage directly state), and inference (what does the passage logically imply without stating outright). Confusing these types is one of the most common sources of lost points -- an inference question requires a conclusion that follows necessarily from the passage, not just a conclusion that seems plausible in general.

A useful habit is active reading: as you read, briefly note (mentally or in the test interface) what each paragraph is doing -- introducing a claim, presenting evidence, raising a counterpoint -- rather than reading passively for surface content. This makes it much faster to locate the right part of the passage when a question asks about a specific detail or argument structure.

More recent analyses, however, have complicated this optimistic picture: transplanted fragments appear notably more vulnerable to the same stressors, particularly rising water temperatures, that damaged the original reef in the first place, and survival rates vary enormously between sites. Some marine biologists now argue that fragment propagation should be treated as one tool among several, useful for jump-starting recovery under relatively stable conditions, rather than a general solution capable of restoring reefs facing ongoing environmental stress. Others counter that even partial, temporary recovery has value, both ecologically and for maintaining public support for conservation funding, regardless of whether the restored coral ultimately proves as resilient as reef structures that developed without intervention.
